Event Information and Rules
Jamis - Karapiro Half Ironman
12th November 2011
Welcome back for year 3 and welcome to Jamis Bicycles and our other supporting sponsors.
We have made huge course changes for this year and they are a reflection of the competitor feedback that we have received over the past 2 years.
Basically - 5% of the competitors loved the challenging (some would say BRUTAL) cycle leg around Maungatautari while 85% felt that I was a sadistic prick and the balance 10% could live with it, maybe!
The swim course was ok and the run course was a little messy and unsafe in town (no matter how much money we threw at it for traffic management).
So, with this information firmly in mind we set out to find a way to make the entire event more user friendly and this is what we came up with.
The entire event will be based out of the Mighty River Domain at Lake Karapiro!
Swim - a 2 lap circuit from the main boat ramp right in the heart of the Domain. Lots of great spectator viewing and still a great swim for the competitors!
Bike - A new course that incorporates approx 19km's of flat at the start and finish of the course and some rolly countryside on a 3 lap loop in the middle. Hilly enough that it will stop the bunches forming but easy enough that even an absolute recreational rider will make it through without blowing a fuse!
Run - A 2 lap course using a loop running along the recently constructed cycleway/walkway between the Lake and Leamington township. Pretty flat and fast and for most of it you have a choice between concrete or grass.
There will be loads of onsite entertainment, food, coffee, supporting events and wicked scenery for the supporters and spectators.
This will be a fantastic family day out!!
